Mushroom Medicine: The Great Defenders, $65

  • Vulgaris Herbs 1381 Kings Highway Chester, NY, 10918 United States (map)

Join Alexandra at Vulgaris Herbs and learn how common, affordable and accessible herbs can support and build long term health.

For millennia, mushrooms have supported and nourished our ecosystem; from encouraging absorption of nutrients to providing valuable medicinal constituents to sustain growth. They have guided humans, plants and everything in between. Mushrooms are not just the great connectors and nourishers, but also the great defenders: they build and fortify our immune response to resist various pathogens, stress and illnesses.

Come dive into mushroom preparations (including simple and double extractions, cooking, mushroom powders, etc), medicinal properties and constituents.

This is a hands-on herbal medicine workshop where we will cover basic identication and sustainable foraging, as well as deep dive into mushroom preparations (including simple and double extractions, cooking, mushroom powders, etc), medicinal properties and constituents. We will also discuss how to identify reliable sources for purchasing mushroom extracts and the various differences between commercial preparations.

We will be covering the following mushrooms: shiitake, reishi, lion's mane, maitake and turkey tail. Each participant will take home a mushroom tincture.

Each participant will take home a mushroom tincture.

About the instructor: Hi I’m Alexandra, founder for Vulgaris Herbs and Mindful Wilderness. I began my herbalism journey 10 years ago, inspired by my grandmother and the wise women in my Romanian heritage. For the last 8 years I have been teaching workshops on herbal medicine, nature connection and wilderness skills. I work with herbs in ways that encourage us to:

  • Engage with the synergies of the whole plant and its constituents

  • Make gentle, nourishing remedies that uniquely support each individual

  • Create a purposeful and responsible relationship with plants that fosters curiosity, kindness and simplicity

  • Build confidence and competence for the at-home herbalist; empowering each student to bring herbalism into their home through hands-on experience

  • Keep herbalism accessible to everyone
